Newtown Road Bridge

Another key improvement scheme to support the growth of Ashford started in January 2008 at Newtown Road Bridge. Newtown Road is a key artery serving the Willesborough area but it is constrained by a low level narrow width railway bridge.

The raising and widening of Newtown Road Bridge will improve access, link the town centre with developments to the south east, and support the proposed SMARTLINK bus service and future Park and Ride services.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2008. During this time the length of Newtown Road will be closed and a signed diversion route in place.

The project is funded by the department for Communities and Local Government, Network Rail and Kent County Council as part of making Ashford best placed in Britain.
