New forecourt plans unveiled
Exciting changes planned for the domestic side of Ashford
International Station forecourt will go on display on Tuesday 23rd
March in the domestic station forecourt between 7am and 7pm.
The proposed improvements show how a less congested forecourt
with clear links to the town centre will be created including a
stunning public square with new seating, landscaping and walkways
and better access for cyclists and pedestrians.
Representatives of Ashford’s Future and Optimum Consultancy will
be there to answer questions and discuss any concerns.
The improvements will mirror the quality and design of other
exciting changes that have already taken place or are planned for
the town to further promote Ashford as best placed in Britain.
A planning application is due to be submitted shortly and work
should start in June 2010 and finish in spring 2011.
The £2.5m improvements are being paid for through government’s
Growth Area Funding as part of a programme of projects coordinated
by Ashford’s Future.
Linda Doran, Head of Economic Development at Ashford’s Future,
said: “The increase in Ashford’s population and arrival of high
speed trains means more people using the station, which currently
does not present the best first impression of the town.
“The improvements will address the congestion issues within the
forecourt, make better use of space in front of the station and
help make Ashford an inviting and connected town where people want
to live and invest in.”
