M20 footbridge open
Ashford's iconic new footbridge across the M20 has opened.
Pedestrians had their first chance to walk across the £8m bridge,
linking the Warren Retail Park to the Eureka Leisure Park, at the
weekend.
Hundreds took the opportunity to take their first look at the
walkway, with lorry drivers hooting their horns back at children
waving to them from the structure.
Now just one thing is missing, a name. Kent County Council is keen
to find a name for the £8 million footbridge that crosses the
motorway. So in conjunction with KCC, the Kentish Express and kmfm
are currently running a competition to find a suitable name.
The aim is to find a name that is distinctive and recognisable, but
we’re open to all suggestions.
KCC highways boss Cllr Bryan Sweetland said: “This is a unique
opportunity for someone living in Ashford to have their suggested
name for the new bridge selected as the official name."
Maybe you think the bridge should be named after a well-known
Ashfordian, an important event from the town’s past, or perhaps
something more modern and striking.
The person whose suggested name is selected will be a VIP guest at
the bridge’s official opening in November.
To enter the bridge naming competition all you have to do is email
your suggested name, a brief reason for your suggestion, your own
name, address and telephone number to kentishexpress@thekmgroup.co.uk
