New street taking shape
As the latest construction shots show work on Victoria Way is
starting to take shape.
Victoria Way is an important new route that will help to open up
investment opportunities in south Ashford and improve the travel
choices for people coming to and from the town centre and
International Station.
Much of the initial activity has centred on land between Leacon
Road and Victoria Road, Gasworks Lane and the Brookfield
Road/Leacon Road junction.
The Victoria Road end of the project has seen the demolition of
Cherry Court and Victoria House along with the removal of the old
storage pond for the substations.
A temporary car park has been made just off George Street to
assist the Victoria Primary school parents and teachers whilst the
construction works take place.
The £16.5m project has secured Community Infrastructure Funding
from Communities and Local Government and the Department for
Transport, and work is due to be completed by spring 2011.
