New look Skate Park on way

Work is due to start in the New Year on a £82,000 major makeover for Ashford Skate Park.

Tenders are due back in December and work should begin in early 2011 with installation expected to be complete in February.

Ashford Borough Council, which maintains the site, is working closely with the park’s users on the draft designs as they emerge.

In July, a routine inspection of the skate park, which originally opened in 2000, found that a number of the timber frame ramps in the skate park had deteriorated and were removed due to safety concerns.

Four temporary ramps were installed while the council compiled up a ‘wish list’ with the park’s users for new equipment and looked into possible funding options.
