High speed celebrates 1 year

December 13th marks an important milestone as high speed rail celebrates its first year of service.

The first domestic high speed rail link operational in the country has made a real impression by slashing journey times to central London in half to just 37 minutes.

The service has helped make Ashford a serious contender for commuters, a good value base for businesses wanting to maintain links to the capital, and a more desirable place to live, given its competitive house prices, quality of life, proximity to countryside and fast access to London leisure hot spots.

It has proved extremely popular, with Southeastern now carrying an extra 5,000 passengers every morning (4,000 on high speed) and 50% of all journeys to London from Ashford are now made using the high speed service.
